Countries are always interested in knowing how their economies fare as compared with their competitors. The ‘Growth and Development Bridge’ (GDB) Index, newly created by the GDB team of economists, ranks countries according to the quality of their economic fundamentals for growth and development. The GDB index also allows a benchmarking of countries with respect to each economic pillar, and this will help countries to identify where are their weaknesses and strengths. Having identified their weak or strong pillars, a country SWOT (strength, weakness, opportunity and threat) analysis can be undertaken at the level of individual variables. This can be a useful tool to analyse the state of an economy and help countries to improve their fundamentals. In the following, we present a brief SWOT analysis of Viêt-Nam, on the basis of the 2010 GDB index.
